Vietnamese Tech Firm Collaborates with Nvidia for $200M AI Factory

FPT, the Vietnamese IT company, and semiconductor chip producer Nvidia have announced their collaboration to establish a $200 million artificial intelligence (AI) factory in Vietnam. The companies aim to create a comprehensive platform for AI and cloud computing in Vietnam, providing AI products, GPU infrastructure, and expert support for local clients. FPT will invest in the AI factory, which will function as a “sovereign cloud,” while Nvidia will supply its latest AI enterprise software and frameworks, as well as Nvidia H100 Tensor Core GPUs.

The joint statement highlights FPT’s ambition to position Vietnam as a global AI hub and transform the country into an AI-driven nation. Their efforts will also extend to neighboring countries like Japan and Korea, with the goal of accelerating the adoption of AI applications. Nvidia’s vice president for Worldwide AI, Keith Strier, emphasizes the potential of AI to improve lives and contribute to economic growth in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, climate, and manufacturing.

The AI factory will offer cloud GPU services to FPT’s corporate customers, enhancing the capabilities and speed of AI applications. It will also provide comprehensive generative AI services. Nvidia’s programs will be integrated into the educational curriculum and activities of universities and high schools across Vietnam, impacting an estimated 30,000 students. This initiative aligns with Nvidia’s previous plans to expand partnerships in Vietnam to nurture local AI talent.

In another development, the United States and Vietnam entered into significant business agreements and partnerships in September 2023, focusing on strengthening the semiconductor supply chain. This meeting involved prominent tech companies like Nvidia, Microsoft, and Google, reaffirming their commitment to AI-focused cooperation. Subsequently, Nvidia’s CEO announced the company’s intention to deepen its partnerships in Vietnam and attract local talent in the AI industry.

FPT and Nvidia’s collaboration in building the AI factory in Vietnam underscores the nation’s aspirations to become a global AI powerhouse. The establishment of a “sovereign cloud” and the provision of cutting-edge AI technology will contribute to the acceleration and adoption of AI applications not only in Vietnam but also in neighboring countries. By incorporating Nvidia’s programs into educational institutions, the initiative is expected to educate and train a significant number of students, fostering the growth of AI expertise in the region.
