Stepn Go: Share Digital Sneakers, Split Earnings

Nearly three years after its initial release, Stepn, a leading move-to-earn game based on the Solana blockchain, is branching out into the social sphere with a fresh application and a new token. On May 23, FSL, the gaming studio that created Stepn, unveiled Stepn Go, a new social lifestyle app that incentivizes daily physical activity and social engagement.

With Stepn Go, users can now share their digital sneakers with friends and family who are new to the platform and also share the earnings. The app introduces various social features, such as the ability to add friends, send messages, create avatars, and explore additional gameplay options. This allows users to earn GMT rewards more effectively.

To support this new experience, Stepn Go introduces a new token called the Go Gaming Token (GGT). Similar to Stepn’s existing utility token, the Green Satoshi Token (GST), the GGT token can be earned through activities like walking, jogging, and running while using digital sneakers.

Stepn initially launched in 2021 and has grown to become one of the largest move-to-earn games, pioneering the intersection of gaming and fitness in the Web3 space. The game features a dual-token system, with GST serving as the utility token available in unlimited supply, and the Green Metaverse Token (GMT) acting as Stepn’s governance token.

Yawn Rong, co-founder of FSL, mentioned that the community has been requesting social features within the app since its early days. “We’re thrilled to introduce these new features, which we believe will drive Stepn Go toward mainstream adoption. Along with the new Haus Mechanism and Interactive Map, we’ll be adding player-versus-player elements to the app,” said Rong.

The GameFi sector, which merges gaming with decentralized finance (DeFi), has observed a resurgence in recent months, following a period of significant downturn in 2022 and 2023. This revival is partly due to a rise in cryptocurrency prices, and it has been marked by an increase in daily active wallets within the GameFi ecosystem.

Stepn has also been actively pursuing partnerships to expand its reach. In April, the company collaborated with German sportswear giant Adidas on a release of 1,000 Genesis Edition nonfungible tokens (NFTs) on the Solana blockchain.

Stepn rewarded its core players by announcing an airdrop of 100 million FSL points, an incentive valued at approximately $30 million. This move was aimed at strengthening the loyalty and engagement of its most dedicated users, further solidifying its place in the move-to-earn and GameFi sectors.
